LLŪM’s roots trace back to 1996, when Rob Scherer founded TAG (Teamtag.net) after serving as the CFO of one of California’s largest reinforcing steel contractors. As a seasoned leader and former president of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), Rob saw firsthand the complexities contractors face in managing their finances. He launched TAG to fill a critical industry gap—offering specialized, outsourced accounting services tailored specifically to construction companies.
In the late ’90s and early 2000s, TAG emerged as one of the first outsourced accounting firms in the construction space, quickly becoming the go-to partner for builders and subcontractors in San Diego and Orange County. Back then, remote accounting wasn’t yet feasible, so TAG thrived by offering high-touch, local service grounded in deep construction expertise.
In 2017, Justin Atneyel joined TAG with a bold vision: modernize the firm’s operations and expand its reach nationwide. By leveraging cloud-based accounting tools, investing in internet marketing, and introducing scalable financial systems, Justin helped evolve TAG from a regional firm into a national powerhouse, serving construction clients coast to coast—from New York to California.
As TAG’s influence grew, so did its service offerings. In 2020, Rob and Justin rebranded the firm under the name Plumb to reflect this evolution and position the company for the next chapter of growth. The outsourced accounting and fractional CFO division continued to thrive under the Plumb umbrella.
In 2024, Rob began focusing on Plumb’s bill pay and software divisions, and offered Justin the opportunity to acquire the outsourced accounting and CFO services division. This milestone marked a new era—and a new name.
